Energy Saving Tips for your Air Conditioning System
Energy Saving tips for your air conditioning system
As electricity prices continue to rise it’s important to keep your consumption low! As we enter into the summer period and we will be running our air conditioning systems more, here are some great tips to keep in mind when running you air conditioning to help with your energy consumption levels:
- Make sure that all your windows and external doors are closed when the air conditioning unit is switched on.
- Ensure that you utilise the zones if you have them or close doors to rooms that are not in use.
- Regularly clean your filters – refer to our previous blog on dirty filters for tips on how to clean.
- Set system to the right temperature for the season:
- 23-25OC in summer
- 19-20OC in winter
- Close the curtains and or the blinds to keep out the external heat coming in during summer.
- During hotter days turn the system on earlier in the day – it is more efficient to cool a house earlier in the day and keep cool instead of trying to cool a hot house in the middle or at the end of the day when the external temperature is higher.
- Run your air conditioning system on dry – this can be more efficient then running on cool and also helps with reducing moisture in the home during humid days.
- Depending on the age of your system it could also be time to upgrade to a more economical system.
- Ensure that your ducting is in good condition, without any rips or tears or leaking joints. Leaking joints will contribute to wasted energy.
- Reminder that a split system is only designed to cool or heat the room that it is installed in – they are not designed to cool/heat the whole house.
